Evan Watson
Evan's "Giving Tree" on Meat Loaf's New Album

Meat Loaf's new album Hell in a Handbasket is his 12th studio album released September 30, 2011 by Sony Records in Australia, followed by it's worldwide release on MARCH 13TH!! Meat Loaf features Evan Watson's song "The Giving Tree" as track number 3. Be sure to reserve a copy of the CD and keep an eye out for Meat Loaf & Evan Watson shows in 2012!

"Opening straight rockers All of Me and Fall From Grace, lead into the incredibly catchy The Giving Tree. Mad Mad World introduces the first of Meat’s collaborations with a rapper, in this case Chuck D of public enemy, takes a look at the state of the world – the recurring theme of the album - and as strange as it seems to imaging a rap on a Meat Loaf track, the bleakness of backing track during it somehow pulls it off.

The fast paced Party of One continues the bleakness that dominated the album, this time including the lyrics ,”I used to keep a lot of people around, who had their hands over my eyes, ears and mouth. Just like the money and the buzz they were gone in the morning.” Anyone who knows the history of Meat Loaf and his various management teams, this is a song that relates to him more than any other he has ever sung." - review by Anthony Lund in "The rock god returns with a stunning mix of modern rock, rap, country and just a touch of Meat magic in one of the most unexpected masterpieces of his career. It's Meat, Jim, but not as we know it."

Piece Description:
"Working for Live Nation has allowed me the chance to see a TON of great bands. From Kid Rock to Elton John, this season has been packed with talent. But it’s not always the headliner that grabs my attention. In this case, it was the opening act. He started early… very early, and no one had ever heard of him. Regardless, I had a photo pass so I went out to take a few shots before the big guys took the stage. I would later learn that he has written songs for Meatloaf and is on the road with Heart! and Def Leppard all summer long. What a great way to get your feet wet! He has a band too, but at Verizon Wireless Music Center he was rocking solo. I was blown away, and just had to chat with him. I’ll stop talking so we can hear from the artist… it’s my absolute pleasure to introduce you to Evan Watson." - Ricky Lee Potts

9/4/11 - Daily Record Article in Sunday Issue

The Daily Record of Wooster (Ohio) covers local and world news and since Evan is a graduate from The College of Wooster in the heart of the city, they decided to interview him for the Sunday issue.

"WOOSTER -- It's not every day a person dreams of becoming a rock star and wakes up as the opening act for legendary music groups Heart and Def Leppard. Or they have the iconic Meatloaf recording their music.

But for 2007 College of Wooster graduate Evan Watson, that is how his whirlwind year is moving.

Currently enjoying life on the road, Watson is traveling the country with Heart and Def Leppard, sharing music from his two albums, "A Town Called Blue," released in 2009; and "South," released this year.

While studying philosophy at The College, Watson started pursuing his passion for performing and song writing. His first performances took place at open mic night at C.W. Burgerstein's.

"Later, I performed at the college as an opening act for national acts, or performing to my peers in the Lowry Center," Watson said by email. "I made a very rough demo upon the request of my friend, Christina Rokakis (2007 graduate), who then gave it to her uncle, Peter Zizzo. Peter was, and still is, an amazing New York City-based producer/songwriter who works primarily in artist development."

Zizzo, who discovered Avril Lavigne and Vanessa Carlton, asked Watson to visit New York over his winter break in 2005, where they wrote a couple of songs together.

" ... He was convinced that I had a future in the music business," Watson said. "He insisted that I stay in New York to pursue music. I refused. I wanted to finish school, football, and get my degree. I was a four-year varsity football player for the Fighting Scots. I had just come off a junior season where I received first-team all-conference and Defensive Player of the Year awards, which I replicated my senior year, along with an All-American honorable mention. I chose The COW over the music then, but as soon as I graduated, I moved to New York."

What is this?
Maximum Threshold is a hard rock/metal and sometimes comedy show dedicated to presenting up and coming hard rock bands, current successful bands as well as brings you some of the biggest names in the music industry every week for interviews. Everything from Rock Stars to Comedians to Actors and others.

MTRS developed from the show UNN or Uncensored Net Noise. Domonic would do the music news and reviews over there and had so much music news left over that he was forced to get the information out there. With the help of Dan they came up with the premise and the name for Maximum Threshold. The show grew from what was to be a place only to hang out and talk music news but to also network with others who share the same vision. Well MT's fast success in garnishing major talent to the show took the show to a new level, thus the development of the 24/7 MTRN or Maximum Threshold Radio Network spawned from it.

MTRN has brought on board some of the net's best music shows and comedy shows. You can catch new broadcasts every week on the network at their site www.maximumthreshold.net

8/23/11 - Salt Lake Tribune Article

David Burger writes "Def Leppard, Heart and Evan Watson perform for every generation", an article published in the Salt Lake Tribune.

"Three generations of rock-’n’-rollers will visit Usana Amphitheatre on Aug. 31: Heart, Def Leppard and Evan Watson.

OK, maybe that’s only 2 1/2 generations.

Heart features sisters Nancy and Ann Wilson, who are 57 and 61, respectively. The ages of the members of Def Leppard range from 47 to 53. And Evan Watson, who opens the show, is the youth in the crowd at 26.

While the age difference between the Wilsons and the oldest member of Def Leppard isn’t much, you could argue that Heart reached its critical and commercial zenith in the 1970s, while Def Leppard was a king of the 1980s. Yet both have continued touring and even recording new albums: Heart released “Red Velvet Car” in 2010; Def Leppard dropped “Songs from the Sparkle Lounge” in 2008 and recently included three new songs on this year’s live album, “Mirrorball.”

Nancy Wilson, Def Leppard guitarist Vivian Campbell and Evan Watson each talked to The Salt Lake Tribune about how there doesn’t have to be a generation gap in music.

Heart • The origins of Heart began in 1967 in the bands The Army and Hocus Pocus. But it wasn’t until the Wilson sisters joined that the band was rechristened Heart.

The band’s heyday came in 1976 with “Dreamboat Annie” (which contained “Crazy on You”) and followed in 1977 with “Little Queen” (which boasted “Barracuda,” which every “edgy” “American Idol” contestant has covered since).

Once the MTV era arrived in full force, the band enjoyed a resurgence in popularity in the mid-1980s, with “These Dreams” and “Alone” (which every square “American Idol” contestant has covered since)."

8/17/11 - Interview with Frankly Speaking

Evan's interviewed by Frank Phillips of Frankly Speaking for the Paper of Montgomergy County in Indiana. Evan talkes about life on the road opening for Heart and Def Leppard in "Local boy wows 'em on tour". Read the entire article below:

"Imagine the surprise that awaited Montgomery County folks who traveled to Noblesville Friday night to see their favs, Def Leppard and Heart, in concert. The opening act was a young man with red hair who played a guitar ... extremely well.

In fact, he wow'ed the crowd. When Evan Watson, the red-headed musician, spoke he said, "I'm from a little town northwest of here you've probably never heard of ...
Crawfordsville, Indiana." When Watson was a young teen, he and a friend, Adrian Starnes, used to perform at open mic night at the Lew Wallace Inn.

"We had to wait in the lobby because we were under age," Watson said Wednesday. "We couldn't even hear the other acts." Watson credits his dad, Dwight, with his desire to perform. Dwight lined up many performers at Wabash College's Salter Hall. Evan grew up listening to Dizzy Gillespie and a lot of Motown recordings.

"I never thought I could do this as a career," he said. He credits his high school teachers for encouraging him, especially Rick Schavietello. Evan played football for CHS and at the College of Wooster in Ohio. One day, a friend sent a demo track Evan made to her uncle, who was a record producer in New York City. After he graduated from college in 2007, Evan opened for Meat Loaf in New York City, which led to the current 47-city tour with Heart and Def Leppard.

Meat Loaf is recording one of Evan's songs, "The Giving Tree" on his next album, which will be released early next year in the U.S. After this tour ends, Evan plans to audition as an opening act in L.A. The local boy has made good and has come a long way from waiting in the lobby at the Lew."
